Oral Hygiene
It is extremely important to care for your teeth and gums from an early age. Well-maintained teeth will not only last longer, but are less likely to be at risk of many common oral health problems, such as tooth decay, gingivitis or periodontitis.
An oral hygiene appointment can be made with our providers. At Metro Dental Lounge, we recommend an oral hygiene check-up at least once every six months, or sooner if necessary.
HOW TO MAINTAIN OPTIMUM ORAL HEALTH
Many of us like to indulge in sugary foods and drink, but overdoing it can contribute significantly to poor oral health and tooth decay. We suggest keeping your intake of overly sugary treats minimal, in order to keep your teeth in tip-top shape.
BRUSHING
Everyone should brush their teeth twice daily with a soft-bristled brush, and floss their teeth with good quality dental floss. You can also use a quality mouthwash recommended by your dentist as part of your daily oral hygiene routine.
Good oral hygiene is vital, and an appointment with your hygienist is a great start achieving optimum oral health. Our network features a number of professional hygienists and therapists who can advise you on daily routines and the areas of oral hygiene you may need to improve on.
Children’s Dentistry
Healthy teeth are important to your child’s overall wellbeing, so you need to make sure you promote good habits right from the get-go. Your child’s first dental check-up should be carried out before their second birthday, and at least once a year thereafter. Metro Dental Lounge can suggest caring, family friendly dental practice that perform children’s dentistry. Your dentist will offer advice on brushing, suggesting a suitable routine, the right toothpaste, and safe cleaning methods to use on your child’s teeth.
PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY
Our children’s dentistry professionals in the New Farm area encourage patients to bring their children along from an early age. Regular dental check-ups will ensure that your child is more likely to have a positive experience early on, and won’t grow up to be afraid of a trip to the dentist. It’s also important to aid in the detection of cross bites, overbites and under bites.
You should take steps to limit consumption of sugary and acidic foods, drinks and snacks to help prevent tooth decay. Foods such as vegetables, nuts and fruit are a healthy alternative to sugary snacks and actively keep teeth healthy. As with most things, prevention is always better than cure.
BRUSHING
When baby teeth start to appear, you should brush them with baby-friendly brushes and water once a day. A pea sized amount of toothpaste should only be used from the age of 18 months onwards, and should contain low amounts of fluoride.
Smears of regular or milk teeth toothpaste can be used for children between two and eight, and supervision is recommended to make sure your child learns to spit toothpaste out after brushing. Your child should brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time, usually after their morning and evening meals.

Teeth Whitening
If your teeth are stained, yellowing or otherwise discoloured, Metro Dental Lounge can help you set things right. Our dentist offers various whitening solutions to improve the appearance of your natural teeth.
Teeth often become discoloured and stained from smoking, certain medications, poor oral hygiene, and from sugary drinks, coffee, tea and red wine. Over time, the enamel on your teeth is worn down and develops a dull, lacklustre appearance.
A tooth whitening program is a safe and proven procedure that restores the colour of your teeth. There are many different teeth whitening options available, and your dentist will examine your teeth to determine which treatment is most suitable for you.
Your dentist will either perform the treatment at their dental practice using a chemical bleaching agent or prepare a take-home whitening kit of custom trays and whitening gel. Teeth whitening should only be performed by a dentistry professional to ensure optimum results.
With the right teeth whitening solutions, the natural colour of your teeth will be restored, and in some instances, your teeth will be whiter and more vibrant than they ever were before!
General Fillings
Dental fillings may be required to treat tooth decay or to restore worn or damaged teeth. If you suspect you need fillings in your teeth, get in touch with Metro Dental Lounge we will find the right provider that suits your needs.
WHITE FILLINGS
White resin fillings are a practical solution to tooth decay as they are virtually invisible in the mouth. These can be used to replace unsightly silver fillings as well as to improve the colour, shape or size of a tooth, close gaps between the teeth and repair broken teeth.
One of our dental partners will be able to assess whether white resin fillings are suitable for your circumstances. If so, the insertion process is usually prompt and pain-free. Most procedures can be carried out within an hour and should last for up to several years if you maintain your regular dental check ups.

Root Canal Treatment
The most frequent conditions that require root canal treatment are decay, gum disease, or injury to a tooth. Also known as endodontic treatment, root canal treatment is geared around strengthening both the tooth itself and the surrounding nerve tissue.
The advanced technology at Metro Dental Lounge can to help you save your infected tooth. Root canal treatment involves removing infected tissue from your tooth, cleaning the root canal area, and then filling it to prevent further infection.
Before the procedure is arranged, your tooth will be thoroughly assessed to ensure root canal treatment is likely to succeed.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING TREATMENT?
Root canal treatment is usually completed over the course of two visits to your dentist. On both occasions, your infected tooth will be separated from the rest of your teeth using a surgical frame and thin rubber sheet, held around the tooth with a clamp. This prevents the infection from spreading, as well as you accidentally swallowing any fluids or small instruments during the procedure.
At the first appointment, your dentist will clean the dead or diseased pulp from the tooth and roots. Roots are also flushed with antibacterial solutions to remove any floating bacteria, ensuring it can be filled properly. Once completely clean, an antibacterial dressing and a temporary filling will be placed over the top of the tooth to prevent the risk of re-infection.
When you return for the second visit, the temporary filling is removed and the tooth is flushed with an antibacterial solution, before the root canal treatment is carried out. After filling your tooth with cold or warm rubber points, the dentist will seal your tooth, and may suggest having a crown fitted to protect the tooth from future fractures and reinfection.
If you’re unsure whether root canal treatment is necessary, the Metro Dental Lounge dentists can help you to make an informed decision before booking an appointment.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are an ideal solution for covering a discoloured, cracked or broken tooth. They’re also used to protect heavily filled teeth, as well as teeth that have lost their fillings. With so many different types of dental crowns available from the Metro Dental Lounge network, we can ensure that the right option is never far away. Our dentists match new crowns to the shape and colour of your existing teeth. Whether you opt for porcelain, ceramic or gold materials, Metro Dental Lounge can assure you that you’ll be satisfied with the outcome.
WHY YOU MAY NEED A CROWN
There are various reasons as to why you might need to invest in dental crowns. Not only can crowns greatly improve the overall appearance of your teeth, but they also serve to prevent large-scale structural problems. Crowns can help when your teeth are:
- Discoloured and worn
- At risk of fracturing from fillings
- Already fractured and cracked
- In need of a dental bridge
- Recovering from a root canal treatment
Before your dentist can be certain that dental crowns are the best treatment option, a full examination will be carried out. Dental crowns are not suitable for all patients, particularly those who don’t have preserved roots or teeth where the crowns need to be attached.
Bridges
Dental bridges act like a false tooth, providing a great solution to filling gaps in your mouth when you lose a tooth. It’s important to have missing teeth replaced to prevent movement from neighbouring teeth, as well as any decay and gum disease that can be caused by food storage in toothless areas.
Whether you’ve lost a tooth as a result of an accident or have had to have a tooth extracted, Metro Dental Lounge can help you to make the wisest decision about replacing your missing teeth. We’ll find a provider for your needs that will carry out dental bridges, helping you to smile again.
A dental bridge is a denture that sits between two porcelain crowns to fill the gap left by your missing tooth. Dental bridges are attached to neighbouring teeth to prevent strain on them, and to ensure that your bite and appearance are not affected.
Your dentist will recommend the right dental bridges to suit you, and take an impression or scan of your mouth to design a perfect replacement tooth. Dental bridges are made to match the colour and shape of your existing teeth, in order to look as natural as possible.
Dental bridge technology has improved dramatically over the years, so there’s nothing to worry about when you trust our experienced network of dentists to get the job done.
Dental Implants
If you’ve been suffering with missing teeth, dental implants could be just the solution to giving you back your wonderful smile. Metro Dental Lounge can tailor a treatment plan with a leading Brisbane Dentist and Prosthodontist to ensure your dental implants feel and function just like real teeth.
Usually made from titanium or titanium alloy, dental implants are anchors fitted in the jaw bone to support dental restorations, such as crowns and bridges. Dental implants are the most commonly used tooth replacements amongst patients. They’re reliable, long-lasting, and allow you to retain your natural face shape while eating and talking normally.
Before your surgery commences, your dentist will carry out a dental examination including photographs, X-ray images, a CT scan and a digital mouth scan or impressions for dental casts in order to determine the best course of action for you.
Every dentist we work with is fully trained and capable, and boasts an extremely high success rate in banishing patients’ confidence issues with their teeth. You’ll always be provided with a clear breakdown of the costs of your treatment before your dental implants are created.
Metro Dental Lounge not only helps you to plan your treatment, but we also assist you in taking the necessary steps in completing it with dental implants that are indistinguishable from your original teeth.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Some individuals never develop wisdom teeth, but others may have up to four, one in each corner of their mouth. Wisdom teeth are molars that usually emerge between the ages of 17 and 24 and stay trouble-free in some situations. However, some wisdom teeth can become impacted when they don’t have enough space to grow, which may need to be removed to prevent infection and inflammation.
If your wisdom teeth have become impacted, you may notice pain, swollen gums and jaw stiffness. Wisdom teeth removal is usually the only permanent solution, and also ensures that the surrounding teeth do not become infected.
Dentures
If you’ve lost confidence thanks to multiple missing teeth, dentures could be the perfect solution to getting it back. Whether you’ve lost teeth due to an accident, ageing, or poor oral hygiene, Metro Dental Lounge can make sure your smile flourishes once again. Our professionals can create custom dentures that fit perfectly into your mouth, perfecting your bite and speech. With various full and partial dentures available, you’ll never have to worry about missing teeth again.
HOW WE CAN COMPLETE YOUR SMILE
Due to significant advances in dental technology, your new dentures will look just like your natural teeth. Dentures fit over the bone and soft tissues of your jaw and are made to match your remaining teeth in both shape and colour. Comprised of metal or acrylic material, dentures can even be custom built with fillings to make your dentures look more like the teeth you’ve lost. It’s important to point out that once your new dentures are fitted, regular check-up appointments with your dentist will be required. Our providers will check to ensure your dentures are comfortable, supportive and properly maintained.
